Ângela Romão, an alumna of Iscte's Doctoral Program in Psychology, recently contributed to a national publication released by the Order of Portuguese Psychologists (Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses, OPP) titled Vamos falar sobre Autocuidado dos Cuidadores Informais ("Let's talk about informal caregivers' self-care"), available in Portuguese.
The document highlights the importance of supporting the well-being of informal caregivers, who have a 51% higher risk of developing depression a 38% higher risk of suffering from anxiety, according to data shared in the publication. However, only 4 out of 10 seek psychological support. Widely disseminated through OPP's official channels and featured in media outlets, the publication serves as a valuable tool to promote awareness and support strategies for those caring for loved ones.
Ângela Romão is currently working as a research fellow on a project led by Luísa Lima (CIS-Iscte), continuing her contributions to the field of health and community psychology.
