COPPER Project in Portugal: A Week of Connection, Knowledge Exchange and Reflection

Between 2 and 6 November, the COPPER project – Creating, Optimizing and Planning Positive EneRgy districts: connecting citizens’ energy at different geographical levels, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) & European Comission, coordinated by researcher Susana Batel (CIS-Iscte), will organize a series of activities in Portugal, bringing together research partners and fostering dialogue with communities and other social actors on issues related to energy, community organization, and the social and solidarity economy.
📍 2 November | Iscte, Lisbon
The event begins with a COPPER consortium meeting, dedicated to strengthening coordination among project partners and discussing the work carried out to date.
📍 3 November | Torres Vedras
The public event Energy for All will be open to the entire community, providing a space for dialogue and reflection on energy-related issues and the importance of promoting more inclusive approaches.
📍 4 November | Telheiras, Lisbon
In the morning, the COPPER team will conduct a field visit to the Telheiras/Lumiar Renewable Energy Community, promoted by the Viver Telheiras Association in partnership with the Lumiar Parish Council. The visit aims to gain first-hand insight into this initiative and explore the challenges and opportunities associated with energy communities.
📍 4–6 November | Iscte, Lisbon
The team will participate in the Social Solidarity Economy and the Commons Conference, contributing to the exchange of perspectives and dialogue on collective forms of social and economic organization within the social and solidarity economy.
Through this programme, COPPER strengthens the connections between research, public engagement, and community-based initiatives, creating opportunities for knowledge exchange and reflection on the social challenges associated with energy.
