Next March 21, the European Rural Youth Observatory, chaired by researcher Francisco Simões from CIS-Iscte, is co-organizing a parliamentary hearing in Madrid on the impact of employment policies on young people in rural areas in Spain. This invitation follows two meetings with Spanish members of parliament during the Track-IN project, funded by the EEA & Norway Grants and coordinated by the same researcher.
At the session, titled "Impacto de las políticas públicas de ocupación y formación dirigidas a jóvenes rurales: Desafíos y posibilidades para afrontar el reto demográfico", Francisco Simões will present some of the most relevant conclusions of the session, while also pointing out some lines of research that could inform new public policy initiatives aimed at rural young people in Spain. These include the Future Youth Information for Rural Areas project, funded by the COST Innovators Grants and currently under development, and the Youth Partnership study (a think-thank supported by the Council of Europe and the European Commission) on the situation of young people in rural areas in Europe, the results of which will be published this year.
